A recent study published in the Journal of Pain Symptom Management (7/02) has shown that breast cancer survivors are using alternative therapies to treat symptoms of menopause.
Since women who have had breast cancer are not supposed to take HRT and have been shown to suffer more and stronger menopausal symptoms than other women (due to treatment issues), this is not so surprising.
In this study, the survivor group was over 5 times more likely to use alternative methods which include soy, Vitamin E, and herbal remedies.
Women on Tamoxifen were the most likely to need and use these methods.
None of the women studied were using acupuncture or chiropractic according to the study coordinator.
