The system of primary health care using natural methods and

substances to support and stimulate the body's own healing

From the brochure offerd by an Ontario based naturopath, Anca Maralog, B.Sc, ND

A naturopathic doctor views the individual as an integral whole where symptoms of disease are seen as warning signs of improper functioning of the body and unfavorable lifestyle habits. The primary goal is to treat the underlying cause of disease.

Naturopathic doctors can and will work with patients under the care of other health professionals. They will cooperate with conventional physicians as much as possible.

Naturopaths use Traditional Chines pulse and tongue diagnosis and can recommend or perform acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and herbs. Botanical medicine is a large part of naturopathy. The use of the whole plant is seen as powerful yet safe, lasting and effective.

Many diseases can be improved with nutrition and dietary changes alone. Supplementation is also available. Homeopathy is another modality used. Stress reduction is part of this therapy as well as phsyical manipulation-musculo-skeletal techniques.
