Low Frequency Emission

NEW RESEARCH ON EM FIELDS

The effects on human health of extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields, such as those emitted around high-voltage transmission lines, have been controversial and under dispute.

Some studies have suggested a link between exposure to the fields and leukemia, although little direct evidence exists. But new research suggests the fields can damage the process of cell division in radiation-injured cells, which could lead to them becoming cancerous.

Although researchers could not find any change in cell division from ELF-EMFs alone, exposure to ionizing radiation caused cell division to speed up.

It is well known that ionizing radiation itself can cause cancer, researchers said, but ELF-EMF seems to make the cells push on into division where errors become compounded.

This suggests ELF-EMF may interfere with the process that normally stops damaged cells entering division before they have had the opportunity to repair the damage, increasing the chances of them becoming cancerous.
