Borage Oil Containing Gamma Linolenic Acid

Shown to Kill Brain,Prostate,Breast

Cancer Cells

From Reuters Health:

Starflower(Borage), an herb that contains GLA or gamma linolenic acid has been shown to kill cancer cells in vitro. This was tried with brain, prostate and now breast cancer cells.

It may act by inhibiting the growth of blood vessels to malignant tumors(angiogenesis).

A recent study of women with breast cancer conducted in central Englad found that mixing GLA and Tamoxifen could speed up patients' response rates. Starflower contains 24% GLA, it is also found in Evening Primrose (often used to treat menstrual problems).

GLA was found to have little or NO side effects.

The study, published in the International Journal of Cancer had 38 breast cancer patients taking GLA (2.8 grams per day) and Tamoxifen. These women were compared to those taking Tamoxifen alone.

Women taking the mixture (called a cocktail) in this Phase II trial achieved significantly faster clinical response than the controls. These are provisional results but "suggest high dose GLA to be a valuable new agent in the treatment of endocrine-sensitive breast cancer"
