American Association of Naturopathic Physicians

Summary by Ann Fonfa, founder and President, The Annie Appleseed Project

One of the most interesting events at this meeting took place on Thursday, August 14 and brought together leaders from American Holistic Medical Association, American Holistic Nurses Association (Lucia Thornton, RN), American College for Advancement in Science (Jeanne Drisko, MD), American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (Lise Alschuler, ND, FABNO), Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine ( Mr X.), Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care, (John Weeks, Integrator Blog), moderated by William Benda.

Introduction (written in program book):

"We are witnessing the fall of our current healthcare paradigm, as all paradigms eventually must. And as the tide of "conventioanl" medicine recedes, many small islands of unconventional practitioners and professions will surface as potential options for a confused public.

But which one to choose? The answer is "all of them" - but as one unified land mass rather than isolated and competing entities. In this first-of-a-kind panel discussion, the presidents and directors of seven major organizations representing a wide realm of practices and practitioners will discuss the needs for creating professional, and organizational, unification and collaboration.

The breakout format will provide ample opportunity for your input, questions and perspectives.

Ann's NOTE: Quite interestingly, the group quickly got onto the idea of needing patient respresentatives to round out the panel - there I was in the audience muttering under my breath - "I am here, ask me to step up". But that, of course, did not happen.
